Where are the career fairs?

One of the projects in Tomorrow’s Manufacturing Workforce Grant is called the Dream It Do It High School Champion program. Each of 31 high schools in Southeast Indiana has identified a single point of contact (typically a teacher or guidance counselor) to provide and receive information on manufacturing related activity in their community.

In 2007-8 school years, over 60,000 participants were reported to have attended career awareness activities in Southeast Indiana. Activities included:

• Career Fairs
• Community Expos
• College Fairs
• Assessments
• Parent Activities
• Teacher Activities (externships, career conferences)
• Business Activities (speakers, plant visits, internships)

Dream It Do It promotional materials were provided to schools by Indiana Region 9 Workforce Board.

Champions are reporting student enrollment in manufacturing related courses and work closely with County Coordinators (described in Lilly Endowment Inc. grant) and manufacturers to provide opportunities to increase awareness of manufacturing as a preferred career choice.
